The organiser of a golf fundraiser which raised more than £4,000 has thanked everyone for a fantastic effort.

Neil Smith, whose 28-year-old son Matt is recovering from leukaemia, organised a charity fundraiser on Friday with 44 players tackling Bourn Golf Course and then a hot buffet and raffle in the British Queen in Meldreth High Street with the help of landlord and landlady Alan and Sue Tobin.

Neil said: “In excess of £4,000 was raised which was a truly magnificent effort.

“Many thanks to Alan and Sue Tobin, all the staff of the British Queen, all the local businesses who supported the raffle and to everyone who attended and was so generous.”

The funds will be split between blood cancer charity Bloodwise, which funds research into leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma and Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s campaign ACT on Cancer – which aims to transform facilities, services and research for cancer patients at the Cambridge hospital.

To find out more about the work of Bloodwise, visit the website at bloodwise.org.uk or for more information on the Addenbrooke’s initiative, search ‘ACT on Cancer’ on the hospital website.
