POLICE believe that a field fire which raged for almost two days may be arson.
Two fire crews from Royston and one crew from Gamlingay were called to a blaze at a farm in South End, Bassingbourn, at 6pm on Monday, August 25.
On arrival, fire-fighters found more than 100 tonnes of baled straw and five hectares of standing crops alight and set to work tackling the flames using a jet and beaters.
More crews from Papworth, Sawston and St Neots, together with a water carrier from Huntingdon also assisted.
The fire was eventually extinguished at 10.45am on August 27.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said that they believed the fire had been started deliberately.
