STUDLAND'S Rise First School, in Royston held a dress in red day to raise cash for the Hertfordshire branch of the British Red Cross.

Pupils dressed in red clothes and matching face-paint, with each one paying a donation of £1, which all went to the charity.

A spokesman for the school said: "The funds raised will go to supporting the work of the Red Cross here in Hertfordshire and other parts of the UK and abroad.

"The day gave the children an insight into how the Red Cross organisation works in which they got to see what it does do and how it uses the money."

Sandra Lucy, senior fund-raiser for the Red Cross, said: "Red Cross Week is a world-wide event. Raising funds like this enables us to support essential community services.
