A total of 30 new primary school places will be created in Royston when two schools are expanded.

Both Roman Way First School in Burns Road and Tannery Drift First School in Tannery Drift will add a further 15 places to their books in time for September next year.

Hertfordshire County Council has invested £13m for expansion projects in primary schools across the county, to meet the strain caused by a population increase.

There are now 10,000 more children under the age of four living in Hertfordshire than there were a decade ago.

Chris Hayward, responsible for education at the county council, said: “We want all children to have a good education. Despite the continuing financial pressures we face, we will continue to invest money to ensure that where the county’s population grows we build the appropriate infrastructure.”
