One seat in each of the Royston Wards - Heath, Meridian and Palace – is up for election.

NHDC have warned that if anyone has not received poll cards in the post then it is unlikely they are registered to vote, but have until April 14 to do so.

A referendum on the voting system used to elect Members of Parliament will also take place.

Voters will be asked if the alternative vote police should be adopted in place of the first past the post system.

John Campbell, chief executive of NHDC, said: “The referendum on the alternative vote system is an important issue, and I would encourage everyone who is eligible to ensure they take part.

“A booklet from the Electoral Commission is being delivered to every household explaining the referendum and how people can take part.

“It is also important for people to have their say in relation to district and parish council elections. At a time when councils have to make tough decisions about the future of the services they provide and how they are funded, it is more important than ever for people to use their right to vote.”

Polling stations will be open on May 5 from 7am until 10pm. Anyone unable to make it at this time can vote by post application, which have to be received by 5pm on April 14.

People can also appoint a proxy, such as a friend or family member, to vote on their behalf. Completed applications for proxy voting have to be received by 5pm on Thursday 21 April 2011.

The Crow will have details of elections of South Cambs and North Herts Parish Council elections in next week’s paper.
