NORTH Herts District Council has been criticised for not taking action to repair a car park wall more quickly.

The wall at the entrance to The Warren car park in Royston collapsed last Friday, partially blocking the exit

Daniel Willoughby, who parks in the car park every day, said: "A normal car can get through but anything much bigger may have a problem.

"By Tuesday no one had even been near to clear it up despite the high parking charges in the town - I pay £2.50 each day to park.

"Wednesday is market day, and to my mind it does not give a very good representation of Royston to anyone visiting."

When he contacted parking services at the district council, Mr Willoughby said he was shocked to discover that it was not aware of the problem.

He said: "It surprised me as there would have been parking attendants in the car park every day.

"But to give him credit he did say they would look into it."

A spokesman for the council said engineers would visit the site on Tuesday to "make the area safe".

She said: "The main priority is to make the area safe before we can repair the damage.

"We are aware of the problem, but do not know what the cause was.

"Hopefully CCTV footage will show what happened.
