CADS enjoys another successful pantomime
THE Royston Corvus Amateur Dramatics Society (CADS) announced the winners of their annual drama awards on the last night of their pantomime on Saturday.
The Fred Sillence Award, named in honour of the former CADS member and Royston Crow editor, went to the producer of this year’s pantomime Pauline Rowe.
Elsewhere, The Lizzie Houghton Award, named after another former member and given for ‘outstanding contribution to youth drama,’ went to Scott Handley.
Mrs Rowe, who was given her commendation for her ‘outstanding contribution to the performing arts’ was described in her CADS citation as “equally happy on stage or behind the scenes,” and was praised for “making drama happen without making it into a drama.”
Scott Handley, who was described in his citation as “reliable and responsible,” and having “increasingly mature technical expertise,” was given his award for his work behind the scenes in sound and lighting and building and managing scenery.
He also gave an “excellent” portrayal of Motel in Meridian School’s recent production of Fiddler on the Roof.
