A TRUST which was set up in memory of a man who was stabbed to death at a recording studio hopes to raise enough money to set up a DJ course in Royston - a project which they hope will remove youths from the streets.

The Tom Easton Flavasum Trust which was set up in memory of former Meridian School pupil, Tom Easton, aims to raise awareness and educate people about the consequences of carrying knives and other weapons and to use creative activity like music to further their objective.

Tom, 22, was working as a sound engineer with youths at a recording studio in Islington last September when the incident happened.

Trust member, James Fletcher, 23, of Royston, said: "We want to try and prevent what happened to him to others through music which was his main passion.

"We want to get other youths involved to get them off the streets."

The trust applied to Royston town council for a community chest award and the council have agreed to donate £200 towards the project which would be aimed at 13-16-year-olds.

Peter Sinclair said: "This will be a great way to engage some of those most at risk of getting into trouble because so many love music and opportunities to learn how to use the equipment from professionals doesn't come along every day outside of London."

Royston will be a pilot scheme.

James said: "We want to see if it's a success first before we take it further afield to places such as London and then we want to get youth clubs and schools involved too."

The trust which was set up by Tom's family and friends needs to raise £5,000 before they can get the project up and running. The money would be used to pay for tutors, second-hand equipment and hiring a suitable space.

Tom's passion for music lied with garage, house and r&b music.

James continued: "We also want to try and release some of Tom's music which was one of his ambitions.
