THE second disabled open day was held at New Malton Golf Club near Meldreth last week.

The pioneering club, which is the first chemically free club in the country, attracted disabled golfers from all over the country to play a round of golf and enjoy the facilities.

Carl Weininger, director at New Malton, said: “The day was again very successful, and attracted a good turn out.

“There was no rain even though it was a little cooler than in August. The course was in excellent condition following the hard work we have put in on it.”

Players from The Disabled Golf Society and Handigolf, both organisations for disabled golfers, attended and played 18 holes. Many brought buggies to allow them to play the course properly, and some took advantage of coaching on offer from Brian Mudge, the clubs professional.

Mr Mudge is currently instructing David Proud, the former Eastenders actor who became a member at New Malton last August, and is also a member of the disabled golf society.

A further disabled golfing event has been scheduled for April 13 2011. For more information call the club on 01763 262200.
