VILLAGE residents from different generations sat down together for a traditional afternoon tea.

The Melbourn Celebrating Ages event saw 170 people gather at Melbourn Village College.

Year 11 students from the college escorted, chatted and served guests withf sandwiches and cakes prepared by college catering staff. The students also entertained with music performed by the college band, pianists and singers.

The event was funded by Melbourn Parish Council and sponsored by local businesses.

District and parish councillor Jose Hales, who led the organising team of volunteers, said: “In the early planning stage we thought about 30-40 people might attend, but were amazed at the level of interest. There was real community spirit with so many people offering to bring guests who might otherwise struggle to get there.

“I am so proud of the students. They are a credit to the college and the village.

“Guest and student feedback on the event has been fantastic and want to make this a regular event for the village and college”.
