The developer of a 250-acre solar farm insists it will continue to work with residents as plans are finalised.

As reported in the Crow in March, people living near Wendy raised concern that not enough had been done to publicise consultation on the solar farm, which is set to be built at Vine Farm near the hamlet.

However, the developer behind the farm, UK Solar Provider Ltd, says plans are still at an early stage, but it was pleased to see 49 people attend the consultation evening held at the end of March.

Carl-Niklas Wentzel, founder of UK Solar Provider Ltd, said: “There was a lot of interest in our development and lots of healthy discussions about certain specifics, as well as solar energy in general.

“We felt there was great support backing this solar farm development, especially coming from our neighbouring land owners and farmers. But obviously there were also a number of local residents that were concerned about what the solar farm might have an impact on their lives.

“In our discussion with the residents, it became clear that the most important topic is visual impact. We therefore included in our planning proposal that the whole site will be surrounded with mature hedgerows, trees and small strips of woodland. Since the area of the land is flat, this will keep the visual impact to a minimum.”

Mr Wentzel added that if the farm is built a ‘community fund’ will be set up to provide cash for projects that improve the lives of people in the area.

Plans for the farm will be submitted in the coming months, and could go before South Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning committee this summer.

In the short term, the Canadian company hopes to open up its European headquarters in South Cambridgeshire before the end of the year.

Mr Wentzel said: “We have set up a preliminary office near Royston, and are conducting the first interviews. We hope to find suitable office space by end of this year. Our main shareholders have strong ties to the region for over two decades, so we believe this will be a quick process”
