DETECTIVES who led the murder investigation into the death of traveller Fred Moss are to receive Chief Constable commendations.

Det Supt Walter Haddow, who led the investigation, and Det Chief Insp Jason Gordon, will be commended for their leadership, professionalism and detective ability.

Two other members of the investigation, Det Insp John Betts and Det Sgt Jerry Seymour will be commended for their professionalism and detective ability.

Crime analyst Kathryn Morgan is to be commended for her contribution to the enquiry.

The enquiry led to the arrest of Christopher Nudds, who was convicted of the murder of Mr Moss, and given a life sentence with a minimum 30 years' imprisonment.

The body of 21-year Mr Moss has never been discovered, despite an extensive police search concentrating on an area around Steeple Morden and Thriplow.

- Det Con Eddie Russell and Det Con Mike Smith, both of Essex police, have been commended on their outstanding contribution, both to the enquiry, and for their work as family liaison officers.
