Work is underway to construct a much-anticipated splash park in Royston.
The Priory Memorial Gardens Splash Park is set to open next May and will include features such as interactive water jets, a may pole and a play stream for younger children.
While the works are carried out, there will be restricted public access to part of the memorial gardens.
There will also be a reduction in parking spaces available in Fish Hill car park while construction is taking place, due to contractors needing access.
The Civic Centre and Market Hill car parks, the children’s play area and the rest of the gardens will continue to operate as normal.
The park is being constructed by contractor Sun Safe Play Systems Ltd. Since September, they have been busy ordering the parts and constructing the new plant room off-site, which will run the new water feature.
Councillor Jane Gray, who is responsible for leisure at North Herts District Council, said: “We held an extensive consultation with the Royston community last year to establish the type of facilities that the public wanted to see. Once the works are completed this will means that Royston will join the other towns of Baldock, Letchworth and Hitchin in having one of these much valued splash parks. We hope the community will love the end result when it opens next year.”
