Royston High Street is to be tarmacked to solve the ongoing problem of the hazardous uneven surface.

The announcement, which will be a relief to members of the public who have been pushing for improvements, was made by county and district councillor Fiona Hill at Royston Annual Town Council meeting yesterday evening.

Nick White, who has been campaigning for a long term solution to surface problems in the High Street, said: “I am very pleased to hear they are going to get it done.

“If the ground moves then the tarmac goes with it, so it is less likely to break up. Although I hope the ground will be made safer sooner too, with holes being filled in immediately when a problem arises. They are duty bound to do that. I think that people applying pressure has helped to get things done, and people power has pushed the agenda.”

The pavement will not be altered.
