The purpose is both to highlight the cycle routes around the town and to raise awareness of the need for creating a safe crossing over the A505/A10 junction, which has yet to find a source of funding.

Susan van de Ven is chair of the campaign and has organised the ride.

“Such a link would enable Royston residents to access the network of pedestrian and cycle paths being created along the A10 to Cambridge.

“It would also enable South Cambridgeshire residents who work in Royston to make the short commute other than by car, if they wish.

“We know that workplace parking in Royston is becoming a real problem, as is peak-time congestion.

“More people would choose to cycle if they felt it was a safe option.”

The group are encouraging those who want to join in to meet at Royston train station at 10.30am, wear a Santa hat and decorate their bikes.

“This is a family friendly ride, last year several families took part, so please join in and help raise awareness,” said Susan.

The ride is on Saturday, December 10. For more see www.a10corridorcycle.com.
