SEVEN novice cyclists are taking to the roads to raise funds for a community bus project.

The staff and friends of the Connections Bus Project will be taking part in a sponsored bike ride on Sunday 6 September.

Their route will cover eights villages which the project's mobile youth bus visits, making a distance of approximately 40 miles.

All proceeds raised will go towards helping enhance and develop the facilities it can offer to young people.

Project manager Alan Webb said "We would be very grateful if people would consider sponsoring us and helping the Connections Bus Project raise important funds. Before I started training for this event I had not cycled more than seven miles in one day."

The ride will see cyclists visiting villages including Haslingfield and Bassingbourn. The state-of-the-art youth bus will also be following the route and be available for members of the public to explore.

Youth Worker Diane Johnston, who is recovering after fracturing a femur back in February said: "This is a great incentive to get back on my bike again after the accident."

Donations can be made via the project's website, www.connectionsbusproject.org.uk.
