More than 100 people watched a fashion show at Ashwell School last Wednesday and raised £1068.40 for the refurbishment of the Ashwell United Reformed Church Hall.

The event was organised by Sue Ross, owner of Cream in John Street, Royston, after she was approached by six women from the village, who were trying to raise extra funds for the church.

Church elder Jackie Embury was delighted with the show's success and told the The Crow about the importance of the hall.

She said: "A lot of groups in the village use the facility and we want to keep it that way.

"It really needs some work on it and the kitchen is looking pretty grim.

"The ladies did a fantastic job, and a lot of people have said how good it was.

"We are very grateful to Mr and Mrs Ross for making it so enjoyable.
