A BLUEPRINT for the future of Royston was unveiled at a public consultation.
North Herts District Council revealed its Royston town centre strategy, which focused on developing the town centre, building up a more vibrant retail sector, and improving community facilities.
Cllr Richard Thake, district council portfolio holder for planning and public consultation, said: "This strategy is fundamental to delivering our strategic objective of promoting prosperous communities".
The consultation ran for six weeks at the Market Hill rooms. Seven areas of Royston were earmarked for development and enhancement:

The strategy met with a mixed reception from the town's people. Town councillor Rod Kennedy said "the strategy is disappointing and some of the ideas will be impossible to implement.
However, Cllr Lindsay Davidson said the town council had to "display the right attitude" towards the strategy, and work with the district council.

Royston Town FC chairman Rob Stewart handed in his resignation. Mr Stewart cited "unforeseen work commitments" as his reason for leaving the club. During his eight weeks at the helm he introduced a new mascot, Russell Crow, and financed the signings of strikers Craig Hammond and Ashley Townsend.
