THE description of a "complete shambles" over schools having to wait for Key Stage results seems obviously right.

There are other comments that could be made about the situation.

But making schools and pupils play this waiting game simply shows incompetence on the part of those who were given the job.

And, it seems, it's just not that results in some cases have not arrived, but the marking of the exam papers now appears to be under scrutiny.

If exams such as Key Stage work are so important to pupils, then those who have been given a large slice of taxpayers' money to deliver the results should take the job seriously.

It is no good awarding contracts to "privatise" services when the results create such a mess.
