Fourty-four complete novice rowers are aiming to tackle 68 km of the River Thames to raise £30,000 for charity.

Organised by Crow country businesswoman Jen Townsend the BGL Rowing Challenge will take place on Saturday April 26 from Bray in Berkshire to Putney Bridge, London.

The rowers will take turns in a four man coxed rowing boat and will be supported by former Beijing Olympic rower, Carla Devlin.

“Rowing requires focus, drive and immense team work,” said Ms Townsend. “The challenge is unusual in the fact that the rowers are not going to be racing against the clock but looking to work together to reach the finish line.”

The team has a target to raise £30,000 which will be donated to Build It International charity based in Zambia which is planning to build a new school with three classrooms, a new sanitation block and a house for teachers.
