A NUMBER of prominent business people are to be arrested and "jailed" next Friday - and it is all for charity.

The "criminals" will be arrested by uniformed off-duty members of the Herts police and taken to a place of safe keeping. In order to be granted bail, participants will have to raise a minimum of £500 worth of pledges in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust.

They will be fingerprinted and detained until they are able to raise the bail money..

Charity area appeals manager Christine Brown said: "This is the first jail and bail event organised in Royston and it promises to be a fun day. It's something different and it will raise awareness for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

"The money will be used to help people who are in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.

"For many people suffering from leukaemia and other bone marrow diseases, a transplant is their only hope of life," she said.

Christine added: "The Anthony Nolan Trust takes back lives from leukaemia by managing and recruiting new donors to the UK's most successful bone marrow register. It is an extremely important charity and one that welcomes support from the public."

n The annual Royston It's a Knockout competition will take place on Sunday, September 10 at the Heath Sports Centre in what looks to be another day of fun and entertainment for all the family.

Organiser Christine Brown is inviting teams from businesses, organisations, pubs and clubs from across the area to take part or to sponsor one of the junior teams (8-14 years). Entry fees will cost £100-a- team and there is a minimum sponsorship of £100.

Entry to the adult competition (14 years and above) will cost £200-a-team with the minimum sponsorship being £200.
