EX-England Test cricket captain Mike Gatting was the guest speaker at the Heath Sports Centre's 10th annual men's night on Friday. Gatting spoke to 110 sports enthusiasts during the evening and then took part in a question-and-answer session. Gatting also met three generations of the Hootton family, John, Christopher and Alan, who are all keen Middlesex county cricket supporters. The evening raised £2,300 for the Lord's Taverners, which raises money for deprived children. Centre manager Bill Snowden said: "Considering there was only about 100 people at the evening everyone did so well to raise that much money. It is the most we have raised so far." Next year's guest speaker will be the British sprinter Kriss Akabusi and the event will take place on January 5.
