A HOUSE and two factories could be at risk as fire crews continue to battle a barn blaze.

More than ten fire appliances are now at the scene of the fire, at Grange Farm near the Flint Cross turning on the A505. So far it has affected a number of converted barns which are now used as offices.

But with the fire still well alight, fire officers are concerned it may spread to two nearby factory units and a house.

Rick Hylton, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service station manager, said: "Crews are at work with numerous jets and hose reels trying to prevent the fire from spreading to the house and factory units.

"There is a large plume of smoke coming from the incident, but it is not thought that the current wind direction will cause this to affect nearby homes.

"However, if those nearby do become affected, they should keep windows and doors closed," he said.

Crews arrived at the scene at 8.35am to find the barns alight. The incident was initially attended by six fire engines; one from Royston, one from Sawston, two from Cambridge, one from Gamlingay and one from Saffron Walden.

They have now been joined by pumps from Newport, Newmarket, Papworth, Saffron Walden and Stansted Airport.
