RESIDENTS are being urged to continue nominating highways maintenance issues which could benefit from county council funding. The Hertfordshire County Council’s highways locality budget scheme gives each county councillor a total of £90,000 a year for highways improvements.
In the last 12 months Royston’s county councillor Fiona Hill has funded resurfacing of pavements in Green Street, Royston, while North Herts Rural councillor Tony Hunter has help pay for improved pavements in Dixies Close, Ashwell, which make the street more accessible for those with limited mobility.
Cllr Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The highways locality budget scheme allows local people to influence important decisions in the areas they know best. Residents who use local routes on a daily basis have a good knowledge of what problems need fixing and I hope people will get in touch with their county councillor and have their say on where funding is spent.”
