PARISH councillors have pledged to support residents who are under threat of losing a sheltered accommodation scheme.

But owners North Herts Homes has said in a statement this week that is proposing to close just one wing at Wheatsheaf Meadow, in Barkway.

The statement said: "We are currently consulting tenants about arrangements, but it is anticipated that some will prefer to move to other schemes."

The statement continued that residents in the west wing - the wing earmarked for closure - may be moved to the better equipped east wing.

County councillor Tony Hunter, who represents the area, said: "Everything has to be done in the best interests of the residents.
