A council’s purchase of Royston’s market place is set to be completed shortly.

Royston Town Council has received approval for its request for a loan from the Public Works Loans board, and will use the cash to buy Market Hill.

The market land has been put up for sale by its owners, and the council, which currently rents the land, is buying it to ensure the market’s long-term future in the town.

As reported in The Crow earlier this year, repayments of the loan are being covered by a small rise in council tax for Royston residents.
