Plans for a temporary access road to service a housing scheme have been given the go-ahead, but councillors hope to win concessions from the developers.
Royston Town Council’s planning committee has given its backing to the construction of the temporary haul road, which would carry construction traffic to the Fairview Homes North Royston development, known as Site B, adjacent to Burns Road, but wants to see strict conditions imposed.
Councillor Lindsay Davidson, chairman of the town council planning committee, said: “The problem was that construction traffic will still have to travel down Burns Road to reach the haul road. Fairview want this to be allowed between 8am-4pm, but we’ve asked that it be restricted to between 9am-3pm because of the nearby schools.
“This road is needed to access the land and people who live down there just want to see the building work done, so the sooner they can get on with it the better.”
The planning committee has asked that screening, which has been installed to shield existing houses from the noise of the building work, be moved at the end of the construction period and put up as an extra barrier to mask the noise of the A505.
