SCHOOLS in Royston were given a boost last week, after parents collected hundreds of vouchers for new computers.
Pupils and staff from Roman Way First School, Tannery Drift First School and Greneway School were presented with new computers by North-east Herts MP Oliver Heald and Kath Holt, customer services manager at the Tesco store in Royston.
Mrs Holt said: "It's amazing the amount of youngsters who use computers now, both in the school and at home."
Parents had been collecting the vouchers as part of Tesco's Computers for Schools campaign, which helped raise computer equipment for schools.
The scheme is now in its 15th year and in that time has seen more than £100 million of equipment given to schools.
Roman Way head teacher Suzanne Summerhayes said: "The children love using the computers and they have gone straight into the classroom to be used.
"It's an important programme as computers are extremely important for the children."
Mr Heald said: "I congratulate Tesco on 15 years' support for our local schools. I know how keenly families and friends collect vouchers for Computers For Schools each year and children in schools throughout the constituency have benefited from the equipment.
