A community group has registered their intention to bid for a Guilden Morden pub after the current owner chose to sell.

The Three Tuns closed in 2013, and South Cambs District Council has now launched a special six-week period where intention to bid for the pub can be registered – giving groups until September 11 to put in their intent.

The Three Tuns Community Group registered on Wednesday, which will mean a further period in which they can get together their business case and finances – and then submit a formal offer to the owner before February 1, 2018.

The owner does not have to accept any bid from community groups and, at the end of the six months, can sell the pub on the open market.

The groups’ John Harrison told the Crow:” We have been spending a huge amount of effort to get this far, so there was a sense of relief when we heard.

“Members of the group are regularly asked what progress has been made on the pub this long after it closed, it shows people are still missing it.”

The Crow has contacted the owner for comment and is awaiting a response.
