A major clothing company is set to open its doors in Royston in what was the Woolworths store.

QS, whose headquarters are in Solihull, confirmed this week it would be taking over the High Street property which has remained empty since Woolworths collapsed more than a year ago.

This week a QS marketing spokesman revealed to The Crow that it hoped to have its Royston business up and running this summer, but could not give any details about the number of jobs it would create.

"We are scheduled to open in Royston either in June or July," said the spokesman.

QS is likely to open a new Store 21 outlet, which sells clothes and household items.

"This is great news for Royston because the loss of Woolworths left a huge hole in the middle of the High Street," said Royston town centre manager Geraint Burnell.

"Having the largest store occupied will hopefully bring more people into the town, and I hope those who lost their jobs when Woolworths closed will be top of the list when recruitment begins.
