TANNERY Drift School pupils did their bit to help keep Royston tidy by taking part in a litter pick on the school grounds.

Year 5 and 6 children took part in the pick, which was arranged as part of this year's Royston in Bloom campaign.

Cllr Lindsay Davidson, from the Royston in Bloom committee, said: "This is about keeping Royston tidy and making young people "litter conscious".

"We had a chat with them before we started about the impact they can make by being good citizens, and hopefully setting an example for others."

Litter was one of the areas which Tannery Drift school council highlighted as a concern when it met Royston councillors earlier this month.

Cllr Davidson added: "A lot of places are seeing their sense of community eroded, and we're very lucky in Royston to still have a good community spirit.

"Hopefully initiatives like this will mean the younger generations continue to maintain that in future years.
