Thirteen classic cars that have lain dormant in a garage for decades went under the hammer at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford yesterday (Wednesday).
The Rolls Royces and Bentleys were part of a private collection that nobody knew about until they were found in a garage in Leicestershire earlier this year.
Vying for top billing were the likes of a Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Touring Saloon, which was expected to fetch £20,000-£30,000, and a Bentley 3.5 litre sports saloon.
The collection also contained a 1939 Rolls-Royce Wraith Special Saloon first owned by the then chairman of Rolls-Royce Arthur F. Sidgreaves OBE, and a 1932 Rolls Royce 20/25 rolling chassis formerly the property of Rudyard Kipling.
“They are in various states of preservation, this is one of the most exciting barn finds for years,” said Damian Jones,sales manager at auctioneers H&H, who put the cars under the hammer.
