AN open-air service and picnic is being planned between the Royston Parish and Royston Methodist Churches.

The event will be taking place in the Priory Memorial Gardens on Sunday, July 2.

The Rev Ian Smart, minister of Royston Methodist Church, said: "With so many major sporting events taking place around this time, we wanted to highlight the positive nature of sport and working together.

"The theme for the afternoon will be team spirit."

Those attending are asked to take their own picnic for 5pm and the service will begin at 6.30pm with music being provided by the Royston Town Band.

During the service groups from the two churches will be producing works of art which Methodist youth worker and artist Dave Hollingsworth will use to create one giant work.
