Icknield Walk First School’s brand new track was officially opened by Royston Tesco community champion and 2012 Olympic torch bearer Mandy Jinkerson, who cut the ribbon before each child took part in a run on the new track in aid of Sport Relief.

Headteacher Jane Sherwood told the Crow: “During the day everyone had a chance to run their mile in aid of Sport Relief.

“We asked them all to bring in £1, so we raised around £300.

“I just want to say thank you to everybody that donated the money for the track.

“The children love it and it means we can use the field even when it’s muddy, as it’s a weather resistent.

“It gives the children an the opportunity to get out there and get more active.”
