IT HAS been a good week for local charity Home-Start, who received two boosts to their funds within a matter of days.
First, the charity which helps out families that have problems with children, held a fashion show at Melbourn beauty salon Esse, which raised 1,183.
Money was raised through ticket sales, a raffle and a 10 per cent donation from items sold at the show.
Sally Saunders from Esse said: “It was an absolute pleasure holding a fashion party at Esse for Home-Start. Lots of guests, lots of fun and lots of money was raised.”
Guests were given a glass of wine and were given the chance to try on the wide-variety of clothes modelled. Mrs Saunders has already expressed an interest in holding the same event next year.
A Home-Start Royston and South Cambs spokeswoman said: “Home-Start would like to take this opportunity to thank Sally and Serena Saunders from Esse, and their team of models and helpers for a really fun evening.
“Thanks also to Johnson Matthey and Hotel Chocolat for supplying some of the raffle prizes for this event.”
The charity was lucky enough to receive a second donation this week - this time from a Royston councillor.
Cllr Fiona Hill allocated a grant of 750 to Home-Start Royston and South Cambs, which will go towards the 10,000 it needs to set up a special home-visiting support service.
Cllr Hill said: “Many parents find meeting other parents and sharing experiences extremely helpful. However, there are some who cannot access this type of support.
“Home-Start Royston offers these families an extra pair of hands and the chance to meet other parents in a safe and understanding environment.”
Home-Start aims to help families who have children under five, children with special needs and children with physical or emotional problems.
It has already raised approximately 3,500 of the money it needs, which will also fund recruitment and training for volunteers and provide outings and activities for families.
Home-Start’s next fund-raising event will be a Race Night held on Friday December 10 at The Old Bull Inn, Royston. Tickets are 7.50 and include a hot supper. For more information call 07836290571.
