TWO women from Meldreth and Melbourn have organised one of the biggest charity events in the area in memory of loved ones they have lost to cancer. Jo Sell and her friend Emma Poultney are hosting the Pink Party Extravaganza in March at the Cambridge Motel on the A10 in aid of Cancer Research UK. Jo said: "In the last 18 months, Emma and myself have lost loved ones to cancer, and last August, Emma lost her mum which was horrific. "We have done other charity events to raise money, including the Run for Life, but we wanted to try and arrange an event in memory and celebration of our loved ones. "We started organising it, and then went to see the Cambridge Motel who have given us the room for free for the night, and it's just escalated from there." The evening will kick off with a live band, Loaded, who play music from the sixties right through to popular music now. There will be a raffle, chocolate fountain, photographers, a light buffet as well as a free glass of pink champagne on arrival. The main event will be a charity auction, with lots ranging from signed items from McFly and the EastEnders cast, football tickets, dinner at Stringfellows in London and much more. Jo said: "We wrote to about 300 places asking for prizes - we were quite cheeky but were amazed at what we've got. "We're both really excited about it - we've got 350 tickets to sell and have already sold at least 100, so it's off to a good start. "We just hope we can raise as much money and awareness as possible." - The event, on Friday March 10, is on from 8pm-12.30am. Tickets cost just £10 and are available by contacting Jo on 07984 088 033 or Emma on 07753 504 436, or via email pinkdisco@fsmail.net. - You can find out more at www.justgiving.co.uk/pinkjem.
