MARIE Curie Cancer Care could net up to £2.5million from a new fundraising partnership with Tesco.

The partnership, which was launched at the Tesco store in Royston this week, will run until December 2008.

Money will be raised in various ways, with Tesco making a donation every time a bunch of daffodils or specially labelled greeting card is purchased. Staff are also planning special events to be held throughout the year.

Marie Curie Nurse Anne Harlow said: "By simply taking part in fundraising events or buying selected products, Tesco staff and customers will be helping Marie Curie Cancer Care support terminally ill people in local communities across the UK."

It is hoped the money will be used to fund an additional 125,000 hours of nursing care for Marie Curie patients and their families.

Linda Wiltshire, from Royston Tesco, said: "I know that my colleagues throughout the Royston store are really excited about working with the charity and we're totally committed to raising vital funds, and having fun whilst we're doing it, in the months ahead.

"We're sure that the campaign will be a huge success," she said.
