A group of Reed school mates have been busy raising money for a charity which provides children and their families with clean water to drink.

When five-year-old Sonny Trussell asked his mum Helen what he could do to raise money for WaterAid, she suggested a sponsored silence – but Sonny thought a bake sale was a better way for him to raise £5.

So Sonny and his helpers Cameron Mace, also five, Frankie Ward and Preston Mulroy, both four, got to work baking, and sold their tasty treats for 10p each in the Reed First School playground on Friday last week.

Sonny’s mum Helen said: “With thanks to the incredible baking talents of the boys and the extreme generosity of their school mates, parents and staff, the bake sale raised a whopping £50. Sonny smashed his target of £5 and we can happily say we’ve helped three people have access to clean water.

“We definitely didn’t have 500 cakes for sale, so thank you so much to everyone who donated and supported this worthwhile cause.”
