A CHARITY auction has so far raised £4,000 for improvements to Royston's town centre amenities.

The event which was organised by the Town Centre Forum at The Meridian School on Saturday evening attracted about about 150 people.

And they were keen to bid on a range of lots from a haircut to a holiday in a luxury villa in Portugal.

Town centre manager Geraint Burnell said: "It was a lovely evening had by all.

"The businesses in the town responded magnigicently. There was a super array of prizes, but we couldn't have done it without the help of Jim Bullard at Archers Town and Country in Royston."

The money raised will go towards administrative support for the forum. This will enable Mr Burnell to focus on bringing in new events to the town, including a flower market and a children's teddy bear's picnic.
