Choirs in North Herts and South Cambs are warming up their vocal chords ready to deliver a top performance – with a theme perfectly fitting for February as Valentine’s Day approaches.
Linda Bance is spearheading the project, where choirs – Foxton Singers, Ad Hoc, Reed Church Choir, Royston Youth Choir, and Guysing – are to come together for the concert, About Love.
Music education consultant and singing teacher Linda told the Crow how it all came together. She said: “It’s a celebration of love in all its guises in aid of the area’s family support charity Home-Start.
“I’ve been working with families for more than 20 years and recognise the importance of music for young children’s development and in bonding and spending quality time with family.”
Around five years ago, Linda – who is from Royston and is the author of two successful books, Voiceplay, and Music for Early Learning – got together a group of dads to record CD DadSing for young children to raise funds for Home-Start. DadSing then evolved into GuySing – who now meet reguarly at Greenway Middle School in Garden Walk.
“The concert is called About Love and celebrates love in many guises from the love of food, cars, pets as well as each other,” she said.
“The choirs are made up of all ages, and I am hoping for an intergenerational feel to the whole event. It’s my passion to see families enjoying music, and we’re hoping concerts like this could become a regular thing.”
It’s taken a year for violinist Linda to organise, and they have a nationally renowned writer, poet and comedienne Jude Simpson on board to weave it all together by hosting the event.
There will be a licenced bar and raffle at the concert on which takes place tomorrow night from 7.30pm, doors open 30 minutes before at Royston’s parish church.
