ROYSTON'S cave is set to appear in a secret societies documentary being released alongside the Da Vinci Code film. Camera crews crowded into the cave on Monday to film scenes for the documentary, due out the week before Dan Brown's best-seller hits the big screen. Angus Henderson, documentary researcher for Wildfire Television, which is making the documentary, told The Crow: "We are looking at secret societies mentioned in the book and our interest in Royston was looking at the Knights Templar. "It's difficult to say how much of the footage will make it into the final production. It's just going to be edited and we never know how much will come out the other side." The Knights Templar are thought to be the first "warrior monks" and many of them are believed to have been based in and around Hertfordshire. Peter Holdcroft, manager of the Royston Cave, said: "The television crews wanted to use the cave as a backdrop, they were interviewing somebody down there." It is hoped that the documentary will raise the profile of the cave, which is due to open at the Easter weekend. Mr Holdcroft is also looking for volunteers to guide people around the cave at weekends and bank holidays. He said: "How much volunteers do is completely up to them. I say volunteers, but they do get paid £20 for an afternoon." Anyone wanting to volunteer can call Royston town clerk Celia Walpole on 01763 245484.
