Shoppers at a Royston convenience store have helped raise cash for equipment at Whaddon Cricket Club.
The McColl’s staff donated £250 to the small village team through the Making a Difference Locally charity.
The cause helps independently-run businesses support their community – with a percentage of specific purchases in the Queen’s Road store going into a virtual charity fund.
WCC vice captain Mike Newberry was handed the cheque on behalf of the club, and was keen to highlight the difference it will make.
“We are only a small village club that plays a series of friendlies each year,” he said.
“This money makes a significant difference, as it will go directly towards equipping junior players and youngsters wanting to try the game.”
Thanks to the donation, WCC – formed in 2011 – will not have to stump up for bats and balls as they look to hit their upcoming opponents for six.
