Carnival-themed Royston Arts Festival to bring Rio flavour to town

To ward off the post-Olympic Rio blues, the festival – which will be held between Friday, September 23 and Sunday, September 25 – will be carnival-themed, to make you feel as if you’re transported straight to the vibrant streets of Brazil.

On Friday CADS will be performing a production of Abigail’s Party, and the day will also feature the launch of the middle schools’ carnival art work exhibition at Royston Museum.

On Saturday, there will be a unique dance show at Royston Methodist Church at 9.30am, followed by a Crafty Kids: Carnival at Royston Museum at 10.30am.

At 12.30pm at the Old Bull Inn, visitors are invited to come and sing favourite Messiah choruses between 12.30pm and 5pm.

There will also be a carnival-themed family storytelling event at Royston Library between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, followed by Carnival Fun – with flowers at Royston Methodist Church.

The Royston Community Carnival event and procession will be held between 1pm and 4pm at Priory Memorial Gardens.

On Sunday, Royston will become a real music mecca, with Royston MusicFest’16 igniting the town.

The event will be held at various popular venues across Royston, including Ad Hoc, The Boar’s Head, Chequers, Coombes Community Centre, The Green Man, Jolly Postie and The Old Bull Inn between 12pm and 5pm.

Royston Town Trail will be held at 2pm, starting at St John’s Parish Church.

Then it’s time to sip on afternoon tea with television personality Pam Rhodes, best known for presenting BBC’s Songs of Praise. The afternoon tea will be held between 3pm and 4.45pm at Royston Methodist Church.

The fun doesn’t end there, as there will be an art competition prize giving ceremony at 4.45pm at the same venue.

Between 2pm and 3.30pm, visitors are invited down to make clay bunting with carnival letters at Glazed Creations in Baldock Street.
