CAMPAIGNERS fighting to get a piece of land registered as a village green say they have had “fantastic” support for their bid.
As reported in the Crow last week, residents of Barkway want to get the land, behind Windmill Close in the village, registered as a green space.
The land is currently owned by North Herts District Council, who have put it up for sale on the open market. Villagers fear it will be bought by a developer and used for housing.
Emma Bransom, one of those involved in the campaign, said: “We have had fantastic feedback and many people have completed the necessary forms to enable us to begin the process of registering this piece of land as a green so it can be saved for future generations from any potential development.
“We will be sending the completed forms and evidence off to the council this week but would ask that if there are any more photos that people may have that they contact us so we can send this to the council as well.
“We would also like to thank Barkway Parish Council, in particular the parish clerk Catharine Toms, for their valued help and support with this process.”
The district council said the site had been identified as having the potential to be sold, and that they were currently consulting before making a decision.
