Great Chishill singer/songwriter Sam Smith has seen his debut album become the fastest selling LP of the year.
The Lonely Hour sold 101,000 copies in its first week on sale, enough to knock Coldplay’s Ghost Stories off the top of the album charts.
It’s the latest success in a fantastic year for the 22-year-old, who grew up in Great Chishill and used to work at Barley stores.
Writing on Twitter, he said: “Thank you to everybody who has purchased my album. I truly don’t feel lonely anymore.”
He was named the BBC’s Sound of 2014, and won the Critics’ Choice award at the 2014 Brit Awards.
