Members of the community who can give blood are urged to head up to Cambridge Donor Centre, where stocks are low because of the recent bad weather.

Stocks of group O, group B, and A-positive blood are particularly low, and the centre has around 350 appointments to fill to cover the the loss off 6,000 to 7,000 units of blood – which could take weeks to recover.

Jon Latham from NHS blood and transplant said: “Donors have been amazing so far at responding to our call for help to improve the blood stock situation.

“However, there are still appointments not yet booked for the coming days at Cambridge donor centre off Long Road, by Addenbrooke’s Hospital. And we really need people who can give blood to book an appointment and help us in the run up to Easter.”

Make an appointment by calling 0300 123 23 23 or go to www.blood.co.uk for more information.
