The final stage of a multi-million pound building project which will give a school a “new lease of life” got underway this week.
All window-walling and roofing is to be replaced in Block C at the Meridian School, in Garden Walk, Royston, which houses the design technology and art. Block H, home of the school’s English, Drama and Music departments, is undergoing similar renovations, with some additional works to the dining hall and learning centre.
The work will cost £700,000, and has been funded by the Education Funding Agency (EFA), which funds building projects at academies.
Headteacher at the Meridian school, Michael Firth, said: “We’re very grateful to the EFA for their support investing in the future of the school. Their total investment of £2million has transformed the school buildings, giving them a considerable new lease of life.”
Building firm SDC of Bedford, who have successfully completed the three earlier refurbishment projects at Meridian, are carrying out the the work, which should be complete by mid-November.
