A BROWNIE group may have to close when two of its leaders leave at the end of this month.

Current Brown Owl Karen Wagstaff is leaving after 19 years working with the 3rd Buntingford Brownies.

With another leader set to retire at the end of October, the group will close unless someone comes forward to replace them.

Karen said: "If the pack closes there will only be one Brownie group left in Buntingford, and it's struggling to find leaders as well.

"Not all the girls will be able to transfer so some of them will have no access to Guiding at all.

"The next nearest groups are quite far away," she said

The group has launched a Save Our Brownies campaign, which has seen 2,500 leaflets delivered in Buntingford and the surrounding villages.

Posters have also been put up around the town, and in other places including Hertford Regional College.

"Unfortunately we've had absolutely no one respond so far," said Karen.

"We've asked everywhere we can think of.

"I've been involved with Guiding for 30 years and it is such a rewarding thing to do.

"You get to see the girls develop and build their confidence," she added.

Brownies is open to girls aged 7-11 and the 3rd Buntingford Group meets at Millfield School on Monday evening.
