A nine-year-old boy and a 38-year-old woman have both died after a two-car crash on the A1198 between Bassingbourn and Royston on Saturday night.
Emergency services were called to the stretch of road at about 6.30pm on Saturday after reports of a collision between a silver Renault Clio and a blue Volkswagen Polo.
The road was closed for several hours and police have now confirmed the driver of the Renault, Clare Bakhtiar, 38, from Salisbury in Wiltshire, died at the scene.
Nine-year-old Lawrence Carroll, of Tamworth Road in Hertford, who was a rear-seat passenger in the Volkswagen, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries. He died at the hospital yesterday morning.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a woman in her 40s, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and the front-seat passenger, a 15-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries. They were both taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where they remain at this time.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the road policing unit on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
