THE prospect of a permanent BMX track in Melbourn moved a step closer to reality this week.

Melbourn Parish Council's conservation committee this week resolved to make a change of use planning application to allow land at the Grennel Hill, near Old London Road, Melbourn, to be used as a biking track.

A parish council spokesman said: "It has been difficult finding a permanent place to put this track as no other sites in the village are available.

"However, we hope this will prove to be a good long term solution, although we will have to await the decision of the planning authorities."

The parish council has been working closely with district councillors Janice Guest and Val Barrett to find a new location since the village's original BMX track was closed down last year after complaints from neighbours about noise.

Last month Cllr Guest told The Crow that she hoped the track would be up and running by the summer.
